Dr. Velupillai Ramakrishnan of Varivallvu, Karainagar, Sri Lanka – Passed away peacefully in Melbourne on Sunday, 22 December 2013 in his 81st year. Son of Late Mr & Mrs. Paramo (KICHIYAR) Velupillai and Parvathipillai (Nona).
He was born on February 17, 1932 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He attended St Thomas College, Colombo (Sri Lanka), University of Peradeniya, University of London and University of Lancaster (Great Britain). He married Parameswary Ponnampalam, and together they had four children, Thiruamaran, Dr. (Mrs.) Santhi Devi Suresan, Paranthaman and Jeyendradasan. He is the loving brother of Late Justice (Mr.) Kanagaratnam (Malaysia), Late Dr. Kanapathi (Economist, Melbourne), Late Dr. Nadarajah (Engineer, Malaysia), Late Mrs. Parameswary Kanesapillai (Sri Lanka) and Late Mrs. Mahaluxmi Visvalingam (Canada).
Between 1967 – 1997 he was a Lecturer at University of Peradeniya, University of Jaffna, and then as a Dean, Department of Arts & Culture, Eastern University of Sri Lanka. He was a visiting professor and researcher in Europe, South East Asia and Asia Pacific countries.
Viewing will be held at the Boyd Chapel, Springvale Botanical Cemetery, 600 Princes Hwy, Springvale Victoria 3171, Australia on Sunday, 29 December 2013 from 10.00 a.m. – 12.00p.m. Followed by a private Hindu ritual.
